Download Windows 10 Wallpapers and Lock Screen Backgrounds

Microsoft’s latest OS Windows 10 comes with many new features and GUI changes such as new theme, icons, animations, eye candy effects such as drop-shadow, etc. Windows 10 also comes with some new wallpapers and Lock Screen backgrounds.

If you are using Windows 10, you can copy these new wallpapers from the OS and can use them in other computers. But if you don’t have Windows 10 installed and want to have all new wallpapers in your computer, this article will help you.

Today in this article, we are going to share all new wallpapers and Lock Screen background images present in Windows 10. We are also providing some hidden Lock Screen background images which are not directly visible in Explorer. These background images are present inside a hidden system folder “App Data”. Also these secret Lock Screen background image files don’t have any extension which makes them hard to find.

UPDATE:

Many readers have asked me, Where did I find these hidden Lock Screen backgrounds, where are they stored in Windows 10? Actually I found these images in following hidden folder:

Windows 10 Preview Builds:

C:\Users\user_name\appdata\Local\Packages\Microsoft.ContentDeliveryManager_xyz\LocalState\Assets\

Windows 10 Final Version:

C:\Users\user_name\appdata\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_xyz\LocalState\Assets\

You can directly access the folder using %localappdata% environment variable:

Windows 10 Preview Builds:

%localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.ContentDeliveryManager_xyz\LocalState\Assets\

Windows 10 Final Version:

%localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_xyz\LocalState\Assets\

Here xyz will be random letters and numbers in folder name.

In this folder, you’ll find several files without any extensions. Actually all these are .JPG files which are used to show backgrounds on Lock Screen.

Rename them with .JPG extension and you’ll have the hidden background images.

PS: I think the images are downloaded from Microsoft server and are dynamically changed at every login.

  1. Where did you find the hidden lock screen backgrounds, where are they stored at? There is a solar panel one and a defocused lights one. Paul has the solar one but he can’t find it:

  2. Vishal, where did you find the Hidden Lock Screen Backgrounds, I would like to find them and can I have the path for File Explorer?

  3. ^^ I found those images in following hidden folder:

    C:\Users\user_name\appdata\Local\Packages\Microsoft.ContentDeliveryManager_xxxxxxxx\LocalState\Assets\

You can directly access the folder using %localappdata% environment variable:

    %localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.ContentDeliveryManager_xxxxxxxx\LocalState\Assets\

Here xxxxxxxx will be random letters and numbers in folder name.

In this folder, you’ll find several files without any extensions. Actually all are .JPG files which are used to show backgrounds on Lock Screen.

Rename them with .JPG extension and you’ll have the hidden background images.

  4. FYI, a quick Google search on any of the filenames in that folder finds this:

    onedrive.live.com/?cid=f62bc37cdf745558&id=F62BC37CDF745558!94018&ithint=folder,jpg&authkey=!AA11W1Z0ALioCYc

This is a OneDrive folder called (imaginatively enough) “Windows 10 wallpapers”. There are a total of 58 images in the collection, but about half are portrait crops of their landscape counterparts. They’re all really quite fantastic – my hat’s off to the photographers!

Hopefully, revealing this won’t prompt the Windows 10 team to move them! 🙂

  5. one drive link is dead :(, there was a wallpaper yesterday tht I loved ! like a foggy city with light, i had a phone pic of it but i have to have that pic! … the hunt continues.

  6. Stink! In build 10041 they changed the folder, can’t find them anymore. Microsoft we are going to find these wallpapers if it’s the last thing we do!

  7. @noahridge They did change it, but I found the new location:

    Old location:
    %localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.ContentDeliveryManager_xxxxxxxx\LocalState\Assets\

    New location:
    %localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_xxxxxxxx\LocalState\Assets\

From the looks of it they probably just changed a namespace in one of their projects to be more clear and that wound up moving them…I doubt they did it to purposefully hide these assets from those of us looking for them

  8. I found it at: E:\Windows\Web\4K\Wallpaper\Windows\img0-4K.jpg

  9. C:\Users\Paul\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_XXXXXXXXX\LocalState\Assets

  10. I find Win 10 update has installed an image which appears each time I turn on the computer. The only option is to like it: y/n. I want to GET OUT OF IT. Better yet i’d like to keep it from annoying me by popping up when I’m trying to get access.

  11. I have saved over 600 of these pics checking every few days but they seem to have stopped uploading. Last files are dated 1-3-2018.

  12. On login (Win10) right after my unit identifies itself (Dell in my case), I get a gorgeous full screen photograph. The image is changed from day to day – often after only a single day. Yesterday and today it has been a picture of a bridge across a river with a park in the background. I am positive that this bridge and park are in Austin, Texas. I have very fond memories of both many years ago, and would like to be able to confirm the subject of the picture, and, perhaps, even obtain a copy. Anyone got any great ideas how this might be done?
