Fix Colorful Screen Saver Automatic Launches on Asus Devices

If you have an Asus PC or laptop and you are annoyed by the automatic launch of Asus screen saver after every few minutes, this article will help you in disabling and removing the screen saver permanently in your Asus device.

Recently I purchased Asus Zenbook laptop for personal use. It was my first Asus device so it took some time in getting used to it. Although the device was fast and stable but one feature started annoying me a lot.

After every few minutes interval, a colorful screen saver was launching automatically. It was not the default screen saver that comes bundled with Windows 10 or Windows 11 operating systems.

Following screenshot shows the colorful screen saver appearing automatically on my Asus device:

Since I already formatted and clean installed Windows 11 Pro version in the device, all bundled bloatware apps were automatically removed from the device. So I was wondering which app or setting was causing this screen saver launching automatically.

The screen saver was appearing on device screen whenever the device was left idle for a fixed interval of 30 minutes.

I checked the Screen Saver settings and it was already set to None as shown in following screenshot:

PS: You can open Screen Saver customization window by right-clicking on Desktop and selecting Personalize option. Then click on Lock Screen option and select Screen Saver option.

You can also direct launch Screen Saver settings using following secret commands in RUN dialog box:

control desk.cpl,,1

control desk.cpl,,@screensaver

desk.cpl ,1

After a few minutes troubleshooting, finally I was able to find out the culprit behind this issue. The screen saver was installed by MyASUS app which was automatically downloaded and installed via Windows Updates.

MyASUS app can be considered as the control center to customize Asus devices. It allows users to turn on/off various features to improve device performance.

MyASUS app enabled a stock or built-in screen saver called “Pixel Refresh” which was launching automatically on the screen after 30 minutes idle time.

The screen saver has been developed to prevent permanent burn-in damage to the OLED display present on the device. It automatically refreshes screen pixels and optimizes picture quality whenever the device is idle for 30 minutes.

If you are also irritated by this screen saver and want to get rid of it, you can easily disable it by turning off a toggle button.

Following steps will help you in disabling the Pixel Refresh screen saver permanently on Asus devices:

STEP 1: Open MyASUS app from Start Menu.

STEP 2: Click on Device Settings tab or section in left-side pane of the app.

STEP 3: In right-side pane, click on Audio and Visual tab.

Scroll down a little and you’ll see ASUS OLED Care section.

Now set the toggle button given next to Pixel Refresh screen saver to OFF.

That’s it. It’ll immediately disable the screen saver and it’ll no longer launch automatically on your Asus device.

BONUS TIP:

When I searched in File Explorer, I found that the screen saver file name is OLED Care Screensaver.scr and it is present in following locations:

C:\Windows\ASUS\ScreenSaver

C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\asusoledcare.inf_amd64_ce2a4cefc504551d
