Microsoft is rolling out these AI features in phases, and some Edge users have already received these features and some are waiting for them. If you don’t want any extra or forced AI functionality in Edge web browser and want to get rid of all bundled AI stuff from your web browser, this article will help you.

Similarly, if you haven’t received these new AI features but want to test drive them right now in your web browser, this article will help you in activating and enabling these AI features manually in Microsoft Edge.

List of AI-Powered Features that are Available in Microsoft Edge

Following are all new AI features which can be used in Microsoft Edge web browser:

  • AI Theme Generator
  • AI-Writing Assistant/Rewrite with Copilot/Compose on the Web
  • AI Generated Workspaces
  • AI-Explained DevTools

AI Theme Generator is a new tool powered by Microsoft Designer in Microsoft Edge that lets users generate browser themes using DALL-E and apply them to Microsoft Edge UI. Users can input a text prompt and the AI feature will generate a new theme including background images and color styles which can be applied to the web browser to change its look-n-feel.

AI-Writing Assistant is also known as “Rewrite with Copilot” or “Compose on the Web”. It assists users in writing on the web with AI-generated text, re-writing, changing tone, formatting the text, etc.

AI Generated Workspaces feature automatically creates a workspace from a topic asked by the user from Bing search box.

NOTE: At the moment, only above mentioned AI features are available in Edge. In future, many more AI features are going to be added to the web browser, and we’ll keep updating this article to include instructions for enabling or disabling all new AI features for your convenience.

AI-Powered Features might Collect and Send Data to Servers

At the moment, most of these new AI-powered features and tools are available to a limited set of Edge users only. All AI features will be rolled out to all users and regions in coming months and future versions of Microsoft Edge web browser. Also many more AI-powered features will be added in future versions of the web browser.

Since these features are AI-based, there are chances that some data might be collected or sent to Microsoft servers to help train or improve AI features. Due to the possible data collection, many Edge users might want to disable these new AI features. Also some users might not find the new AI-powered features useful and might see these new features as bloatware.

On the other hand, many people who haven’t received these new AI features in their web browser, might want to enable them right now in Edge to test them.

PS: In future, if you decide to restore the AI features settings in Edge, delete the above mentioned DWORDs from Registry.

Ready-Made Registry Script to Enable or Disable AI Features in Edge

Download following ZIP file, extract it using 7-Zip or other file archive utilities and run the extracted REG files:

The script file will ask for confirmation, accept it.

After applying the Registry script, restart Edge and the AI features will be enabled/disabled automatically.

The ZIP file also contains extra registry script to restore default settings for the AI features in Edge.

Your Browser is Managed by Your Organization Message After Applying Registry Tweak
