Tip: How to Enable or Disable AI Services in Firefox Sidebar

Mozilla Firefox 130.0 and later versions come with built-in AI tools and services such as AI chatbots and text prompts. These AI services are disabled by default and this article will help you in enabling and using new AI services in Firefox web browser.

You can select any of following AI services to use in Firefox sidebar:

  • Anthropic Claude
  • ChatGPT
  • Google Gemini
  • HuggingChat
  • Le Chat Mistral

Users can also enable “Show prompts on text select” AI feature that displays a shortcut to prompts when they select text. Firefox automatically sends the text, webpage title, and prompt to the chatbot.

In May 2024, we told you about the several upcoming features in Firefox web browser such as tab groups, vertical tabs, redesigned sidebar, native profile manager, etc. Addition of AI services was also listed as one of the upcoming features of Firefox.

Following article contains details of all new features that will be a part of future versions of Firefox web browser:

Mozilla announced that the company will also add on-device AI (Artificial Intelligence) tools and services in Firefox web browser that will respect user’s privacy and will store the data offline i.e. user’s local hard disk.

Finally Mozilla has implemented the much awaited AI services in the latest 130.0 stable version of Firefox web browser. Currently Firefox provides AI chatbots and text prompts functionality to its users.

The new AI services are disabled for all users by default and interested users are required to activate and enable them by using a new Firefox Labs page.

Firefox Labs page is a new feature in Firefox that allows users to enable and test upcoming features in Firefox’s stable version. Users can manually enable these testing features and provide their feedback and suggestions to Mozilla to improve the feature.

STEP 3: In right-side pane, you’ll see several new features to turn on/off by just checking/unchecking their checkbox.

To enable AI services, tick the “AI chatbot” option and select desired AI service from the drop-down list.
