Tip: Move Tab Search Button from Left to Right on Chrome Toolbar

This article will help you in customizing the position of Tab Search button on Google Chrome toolbar. You’ll be able to move the Tab Search button from the default left-side position to right-side position in your web browser.

Tab Search button or icon is displayed at the left-side corner of the tab bar or title bar in Chrome web browser. This button shows a list of currently opened tabs as well as recently closed tabs. It also allows users to search inside running tabs to find any particular tab easily and quickly.

Tab Search button is also known as Tab List and can also be accessed using Ctrl+Shift+A hotkey.

If you don’t like the Tab Search button position and always wanted to move it to the right-side of the toolbar, here is a good news for you. Google Chrome team is working on a new secret option which will allow users to change the position of the Tab Search button in Chrome web browser.

Following screenshot shows Tab Search button moved to the right-side of the tab bar in Google Chrome web browser:

This new option will be available directly on Chrome Settings page and users will be able to choose left or right position using a simple drop-down box.

Google team has already implemented the new option in Chrome but the option is disabled by default and users are required to manually activate and enable it by modifying a hidden secret preference/flag.

Don’t worry! This article will help you in enabling the new option right now in your Chrome web browser.

If you also want to move the Tab Search button from left to right side in Google Chrome web browser, following steps will help you:

STEP 1. Open Google Chrome web browser and type chrome://flags/ in address bar and press Enter. It’ll open the advanced configuration page.

STEP 2. Now type tab search in the “Search flags” box.

Look for following option in the results:

STEP 3. To add and enable the new option to customize tab search button location in Chrome, select Enabled from the drop-down box for the above mentioned option.

STEP 4. Google Chrome will ask you to restart the browser. Click on “Relaunch now” button to restart Google Chrome.

STEP 5: After restarting Chrome, click on the 3-dots menu (Main Menu) and select Settings option. Alternatively, you can directly open the Settings page by typing chrome://settings/ in Chrome address bar.

STEP 6: In left-side pane, click on “Appearance” section or tab.

STEP 7: In right-side pane, you’ll see a new option “Tab Search Position” to customize the position of Tab Search button.

Click on the drop-down box given next to the option and select desired position of the Tab Search button such as “Show on right“. Google Chrome will show a “Relaunch” button to restart the web browser to apply the changes.

Click on relaunch button and Chrome will restart. After restarting, you’ll see the Tab Search button at the new position in your web browser.

In future, if you decide to restore the tab search button position in Chrome, you can set the above mentioned preference/flag to Default.
